Meet the NYPD officers of our newly formed NYPD choir
Просмотров 5958 месяцев назад
In the chorus of The Pogues’ ‘Fairytale of New York’, Shane MacGowan has a standout lyric on which most listeners join in, “...the boys of the NYPD choir were singing Galway Bay…”. While people all over the world sing out that line, very few people realise there never was an NYPD choir, nor did they ever sing ‘Galway Bay’… Until now. As an ode to Irish emigrants and Irish diaspora all over the ...

Artificial Intelligence showing us these misinformed images is a prime example of how many negative perceptions of the Irish still prevail globally. Since we first opened our doors, we have worked tirelessly to challenge such stereotypes of the Irish. We continue to do so today, asking big tech why they still paint us in such a negative light.
From Irish hobo to Buddhist monk - an extraordinary emigrant
Просмотров 453Год назад
Dublin-born U Dhammaloka (Laurence Carroll, 1856-1914), a hobo in the States, became famous from Japan to Sri Lanka as a Buddhist monk and anti-colonial celebrity. He had at least five different names, was put under surveillance, tried for sedition and faked his own death. Laurence Cox (Maynooth University) tells stories from the new biography, “The Irish Buddhist: the Forgotten Monk who Faced ...

I've done a lot of research on Mabel Cahill, who I had hoped to see featured among the Irish women in this video. The EPIC website only has this short blurb: "In 1891, New York resident Cahill became the first foreign player to win the U.S. National Women’s Singles Championship. That same year she also won the Women’s Doubles. In 1892, she won both titles again, adding a third - Mixed Doubles. In 1893, instead of defending her titles, she returned to Ireland." There's more to be seen and told; has the museum updated her exhibit?

How can you call it an irish emigration..... When most were forced by the British onto the boats, for simple petty crime. How for a thousand years Englands kings, would round up irish women and children to b taken to their new lands. Slept were they worked under lock and key by their masters. Or stolen from boats or ports Or starved from their lands... Children taken to the work market, were there overlords would pay the mother to take their children, who were locked up for 6 months at a time, worked to the bone with no day off. There was never ever a irish famine, there was more than enough livestock in Ireland to feed England 3 times over Obviously England overlords had priority, and all livestock was sent there. Forcing the irish to live on patoes.... C the issue with pretend historians or history books they all start in the middle ages or at the time off Christianity.... Most make it up as they go, and change it to fit todays narrative Problem is Ireland outdates both and all our history destroyed or stolen by the Romans, English and Scottish invasion's..... I do know in the 60's 70's and 80's The worst thing you could be in the uk was Irish... The lowest of the low had to hide your tounge to the outside world if you wanted to get ahead. Thats a fact Multiple tv debates from the bbc about reducing irish migration, and the problem with the irish The irish immigration helped build britain from the ground up, never here a word of that in past few years or how much the irish contibuted to these lands I

Thanks to EPIC and the NYPD officers of the choir. We're in Ireland and we watch the New York St Patricks day parade live on RUclips and love watching the NYPD officers and Emerald Society pipes and drums. Couldn't be prouder of our cousins in America. One of the officers in the video has the exact same first and second name of my brother who was a police sergeant here in Ireland in An Garda Síochana.

They left out two verses. Too controversial, I guess. A cowardly rendition, not a very good tribute but a mockery I would say. For the breezes blowing o'er the seas from Ireland Are perfum'd by the heather as they blow And the women in the uplands diggin' praties Speak a language that the strangers do not know. Oh, the strangers came and tried to teach their way They scorn'd us just for being what we are But they might as well go chasing after moon beams Or light a penny candle from a star.
